Previously in Chapter III

Always remember and remind often. Memorability is not the criterion for a great name. It is about repetition and emotion.

Naming Evaluation Chart | 02

a) Trademark Registration

b) Uniqueness

c) Meaning

d) Pronunciation

e) Flexibility

Assuming that all criteria are equally worth for now. (100/5=20) 100 points are the maximum. You have a very good name if you have more than 85 points in total. However, it is still confusing to calculate in fair.

We talked about the second method of naming in the previous chapter. The next and the last chapter is ready below.

Using AI Generator | 03

Most of the clients and business owners spend days from these websites to find the name they are looking for. And after a while, they get tired of seeing ridiculous alternatives. Then they come to me for a real name.

Therefore, I have to thank these websites.

For sure, ChatGPT is the first option to come to mind, yet you won’t be satisfied. Why bother to use something that nobody bothers to create? Anyway, here are other five options for you.

a. Namelix

b. Business Name Generator

c. Looka

d. Behind the Name

e. Masterpiece Generator

Yes, they can help find the right name for the job, but that’s rare! Instead of looking for names around here, I prefer to spend my time going over the brief many times, understanding it correctly, and discovering new inspirations from keywords.

Digging for the gem!

I never use generators. There is no emotion in it.

If you truly want to do this job, you will eventually develop your own style.

Conclusion and some tips

I view naming design as emergent from an emotional, visionary, and creative process rather than as a point at the end of a process.

The best and fittest naming creations happen anytime, day n night, awake or asleep, not in a eureka moment at the end of the process.

And first things first:

You must begin by listening.

If you talk more than listen, you are starting from the minus.

So, let’s say that you’ve read and finished the “Art of Naming” series over and over. You had your first meeting with the client. You listened and took your notes. You are ready to start but do not know how to do it. Here are some good and valuable tips for beginners.

  1. Do some research about the client for all social media platforms. It will give you a pretty good starting point.
  • What they like
  • What they don’t like
  • What they interest
  • What they share
  • Where they live
  • Who are their customers and etc.

2) Hang out briefly with AI Generators. Enter some keywords and see suggested names. If you can’t start by discovering the good, start by eliminating the bad.

3) Everybody wants a short name like Nike, Meta, Apple. At present, it is just impossible to trademark it unless you are big as Facebook or Tesla. So, forget about creating a short name for a while. Focus on phonetics and simplicity. Naming with 2 syllables is pretty good. 3 syllables are reasonable. 4 syllables are terrible. More than four is a disaster.

4) Try to use prefixes and suffixes by reviewing popular and loved names.

E.g., Spotify, GoDaddy

5) Do not attempt to use special characters. Stay within the Latin alphabet, not the extended one. Besides, Q and X is not your friend. And also, some letters have quite difficult pronunciations. Do not try to use sounds like “ch”, “sh”, “th”, etc. If people ask you how to spell the name, you probably have a bad one.

Being a wordsmith is different than being good at puns. Just because it sounds good to you does not mean the accurate naming for the business.

With the support and guidance of chapters I to IV, you can start to come up with a name. Before working with an actual client, test yourself with your best friend. We all have a friend who wants to start a business, right? So get started now and test yourself. Find a specific name that you believe is appropriate for the business and try to convince your best friend that it’s a great choice.
